OSAKA (TR) – Osaka Prefectural Police have arrested a 58-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of injury resulting in death after he allegedly stomped his elderly mother to death, reports the Asahi Shimbun (Aug. 9).
Yoshiki Tsurino, a resident of the town of Misaki, is accused of inflicting fatal injuries on his 80-year-old mother, Chizuyo Hirota, during the early hours of July 10.
According to the Sennan Police Station, Tsurino stomped on his mother multiple times between 2:30 a.m. and 2:50 a.m., breaking eight of her ribs. She subsequently died from traumatic shock.
Immediately following the brutal assault, Tsurino called emergency services. “I abused her and she’s not breathing,” he reportedly told emergency dispatchers. Hirota was rushed to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Tsurino has admitted to the allegations.
The fatal incident was the culmination of an escalating pattern of violence. Police initially arrested Tsurino on July 10 for striking his mother’s head and arms the previous day. He was re-arrested on July 30 on suspicion of causing subcutaneous bleeding by punching her arms between July 4 and July 8. The latest arrest upgrades the charge to injury resulting in death.
Tsurino and his mother lived alone. Police revealed that Hirota suffered from age-related mobility issues, leaving Tsurino as her sole, unaided caregiver.
During questioning, the suspect confessed to a grim routine of elder abuse. “I repeatedly assaulted her on a daily basis due to caregiver stress,” Tsurino told investigators.
