Search underway for 14-year-old Osaka boy who vanished on way to school

OSAKA (TR) – Police in Osaka City have mobilized a 420-person search team to locate a 14-year-old junior high school student who disappeared after leaving for school earlier this month, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 23).

Ren Koizumi, a resident of Ikuno Ward, left his home at approximately 8:00 a.m. on October 14. However, he never arrived at his school, police said.

According to investigators, the teen was spotted about an hour after leaving his residence. He was seen walking alone along a street in Uehonmachi in neighboring Tennoji Ward — an area completely off his usual commuting route.

Koizumi is described as being approximately 165 centimeters tall with a slender build. He was last seen wearing a white long-sleeved shirt and long trousers.

Since October 15, local authorities have deployed hundreds of personnel to comb the city for the missing youth. Police are urging anyone with information regarding his whereabouts to come forward immediately.

Persons with information on the case are advised to call the Ikuno Police Station at 06-6712-1234.
