IBARAKI (TR) – Police in Tsukuba City have arrested five individuals, including teenagers, for allegedly stabbing their company boss, leaving him in a coma with punctured lungs, reports TV Asahi (Sep. 24).
In the early hours of September 22, a 28-year-old executive at a local civil engineering firm made a desperate call to emergency services from his apartment.
“Someone came to my apartment. I was stabbed in the back,” the victim reported.
Officers rushing to the scene found the man bleeding heavily from multiple stab wounds to his back and abdomen, with the blade having penetrated as deep as his lungs. He subsequently lost consciousness and remains in critical condition.
Police later arrested five suspects, including 29-year-old scaffolding worker Kengo Maruyama, who was seen towering over investigators as he was led out of a local police station. The group of assailants also includes individuals in their teens.
Investigators revealed that all five suspects were employed at the civil engineering company where the victim serves as an executive. Police are now probing the exact circumstances leading up to the brutal attack, operating on the theory that a workplace or employment dispute sparked the violence.
Local residents were aware of the victim’s line of work prior to the incident. “Besides a passenger car, I had occasionally seen a truck loaded with scaffolding parked there,” a neighbor told reporters.
