SAITAMA (TR) – Police in Yashio City are investigating after an unidentified body was discovered inside a completely burned-out van on a riverbank late Wednesday night, reports TBS News (Sep. 24).
According to authorities, a passerby dialed emergency services around 11:00 p.m., reporting that a vehicle was engulfed in flames along a riverbank in the Minami-Kawasaki area.
Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze approximately one hour later. Upon inspecting the charred remains of the light commercial van, responders discovered a single body inside.
The severe condition of the remains has made it impossible to immediately determine the gender of the deceased. Police are now working to identify the body and are investigating the circumstances that sparked the fatal fire.
