FUKUI (TR) – Police in Fukui City have arrested a 45-year-old company employee for allegedly cultivating marijuana for illicit sale, seizing a prefectural record of 236 plants from a rented property, reports Fukui TV (July 28).
The suspect, a resident of the city’s Kamino-honmachi area, was initially arrested in June for the possession of dried cannabis following a tip-off provided to police last year.
Subsequent investigations revealed the man had rented a detached house in Fukui City to serve as a dedicated grow house. Police served him with a fresh arrest warrant on July 1 for violating the Cannabis Control Law.
Images released by prefectural police revealed a substantial illicit agricultural setup. Along with the record-breaking haul of potted marijuana plants, investigators confiscated liquid fertilizers, ventilation fans, and specialized lighting equipment.
According to police, the suspect operated essentially as a one-man syndicate, handling every step of the process from cultivation to final processing alone. He allegedly peddled his product to customers both inside and outside the prefecture by using coded language and slang on social media.
In connection with the bust, police also arrested a 25-year-old company employee, also from Fukui City, on suspicion of purchasing dried marijuana from the primary suspect.
During questioning, both men admitted to the allegations. Investigators are continuing to analyze the suspect’s social media accounts to track down other potential buyers in his network.
