YOKOHAMA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have launched an investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body inside an apartment in Yokohama, reports NHK (Nov. 12).
At approximately 10:00 a.m. on Thursday morning, a court official searching the seventh-floor unit, located inside the Konandai Kamome Danchi complex, found the body stuffed inside a duffle bag.
Police are now working to confirm the identify the body. It is believed the person died several months ago.
Konandai Kamome Danchi is managed by the government-run UR Housing corporation.
Officials visited the residence due to unpaid rent that has continued over the last few months. The unit is occupied by a woman, 87, and her 47-year-old son. Police have not been able to contact either of the occupants.
A neighbor, who lives beneath the residence, has not seen the elderly woman for about two years, according to Nippon News Network (Nov. 12).
