Between February of 2011 and May of this year, the employee, 56, earned 4.2 million yen by chauffeuring hostesses between their residences and the club.
When the matter originally surfaced last year, the employee denied involvement. But when new evidence was provided in March, he admitted to the allegations.
“I did it to pay off my home loan and other cover other expenses,” said the employee, who chose to resign from the bureau in lieu of accepting the suspension.
A representative of the bureau admitted that the moonlighting did not affect the staff member’s performance. However, local government employees are prohibited from taking on part-time work.
“It is reminder about refraining from any actions that lead to a loss of public confidence,” said the bureau representative. “We strive to enforce rules of public service.”
