NAGOYA (TR) – A man believed to be a foreign national was pulled from his vehicle by a group of assailants and assaulted early Sunday morning in Nakagawa Ward. The man later died in a hospital, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Dec. 20).
According to the Nakagawa Police Station, the victim, who is estimated to be in his 30s, was traveling on a municipal road when his van was blocked at the center divider by one vehicle and rammed from the side by another.
Five or six men, also believed to be foreign nationals, then dragged the man from his car, beat him with metal bats and stabbed him with knives. The assailants then left the scene in another vehicle.
At approximately 1:30 a.m., an employee of the Ministop convenience store chain telephoned emergency services to report that the victim, who was covered in blood, had just walked into its outlet located in the Nishihioki area. He died about six hours later at a hospital due to hemorrhagic shock.
An eyewitness said that the attackers were wearing white breathing masks and speaking a foreign language.
The incident took place about about two kilometers from JR Nagoya Station.
Police are now working to identify the victim as a part of a murder investigation.
