TOKYO (TR) – A woman in her 30s has filed a lawsuit against a doctor who allegedly deceived her into a romantic relationship by pretending to be single, only to abandon her after she gave birth to his child, reports TV Asahi (Nov. 7).
The woman is seeking approximately 22 million yen in damages from the Tokyo District Court, citing a violation of her “right to chastity.”
She held a press conference on Friday to speak out against the practice of “bachelor fraud,” arguing that the emotional and physical toll of such deception is equivalent to marriage fraud.
According to the lawsuit, the man, a doctor based in Tokyo, began dating the woman in 2023 while claiming he was unmarried — dokushin giso is the expression for faking singlehood. When the woman eventually became pregnant, the man admitted he was married but promised he would divorce his wife.
The situation took a dark turn after the child was born. The woman alleges that the man suddenly cut off all communication. Furthermore, she claims that the man subjected her to physical assault while she was still pregnant.
“It is not just about being lied to about his marital status,” the woman said during the press conference. “I want to clarify his legal responsibility for the entire sequence of events, including the false promises of divorce, the pregnancy and birth, and the violence I endured.”
The plaintiff told reporters that she decided to take legal action to ensure that other women do not suffer the same fate. “Bachelor fraud is as malicious as marriage fraud,” she stated. “I felt strongly that I could not just suffer in silence.”
When approached by media for comment, the man declined to discuss the allegations, stating, “My lawyer has told me not to answer any questions.”
