Man arrested for attempted murder after zip-tying, stabbing roommate in Toshima apartment

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 31-year-old man following a gruesome attack on his roommate at an apartment in Toshima Ward last month, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 5).

Kota Nagahashi is accused of attempted murder after allegedly drugging his roommate, binding his limbs with zip ties, and stabbing him in the abdomen with a knife.

According to investigators, the victim had recently told Nagahashi that he wanted to move out and end their cohabitation. Police believe Nagahashi responded by slipping sleeping pills into the victim’s drink, rendering him unconscious, before proceeding to bind his hands and feet with plastic zip ties and strangling him.

The victim survived the attack and his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Following the incident, Nagahashi fled the scene but was apprehended by police this week. During questioning, Nagahashi admitted to the altercation but denied an intent to kill, claiming, “I only meant to threaten him with the knife, but it accidentally stabbed him.”

Police continue to investigate the details surrounding the premeditated nature of the attack.
