Two confirmed dead after fire breaks out at Tokyo home of lawmaker Kuniko Inoguchi

TOKYO (TR) – Two persons have been confirmed dead after a fire broke out at the Bunkyo Ward residence of Liberal Democratic Party lawmaker Kuniko Inoguchi on Wednesday, police said.

At around 7:10 p.m., an emergency call was placed from the sixth-floor residence of Inoguchi, a 72-year-old member of the House of Councillors. Thirty six fire trucks arrived at the scene to extinguish the blaze, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 27).

Four persons live in the residence. Police are in contact with Inoguchi. A woman was rescued from the blaze and remains unconscious and in critical condition.

A third person was taken from the residence and confirmed dead at a hospital. Another person was found at around 12:10 a.m. the following day and was confirmed dead at the scene.

The safety of her husband and one of her daughters are unknown.

Inoguchi’s husband is Takashi Inoguchi, 80, an international political scientist.
