Well, there has to be a first time for everything. As reported in Nikkan Gendai (June 15), a foreigner has been arrested for groping on a public bus.
The suspect, a 46-year-old Indian national who works as an instructor at Kwansei Gakuin University, was arrested by police in Mita City, Hyogo Prefecture, following a complaint by a female passenger that he had “pushed up against” her lower anatomy. When the bus arrived at the rail station, the woman called for the assistance of a station worker who summoned the police.
According to an unnamed source, the accused received his masters degree in Thailand in 1991 and doctorate at a university in Tokyo in 1996. He is considered an authority on urban planning and in 2006 had participated in a panel discussion at a UN-sponsored symposium on eco-friendly cities held in Singapore.
He had begun instructing at Kwansei Gakuin, lecturing in English, from April of this year.
The article noted that the gentleman had conveyed apologies to his alleged victim via an interpreter.
