Suspect flees Kawasaki Police Station after officer dozes off

KANAGAWSA (TR) – A man who in custody for violating the Stimulants Control Act temporarily escaped from a police station in Kawasaki City on Saturday after a police officer dozed off, reports TV Asahi (May 25).

At around 4:30 a.m., suspect Kohei Takai, 32, turned himself in to a police box in Kawasaki City. “I used kakuseizai yesterday,” he said in referring to methamphetamine.

Police then arrested him over the alleged possession of a bag of methamphetamine.

After being interrogated at the Kawasaki Police Station, he fled the premises after the police officer supervising him in the interrogation room dozed off.

Another officer who noticed immediately gave chase, secured him on the street about 200 meters away and arrested him on suspicion of attempted escape.

Takai is said to have admitted to the charges during interrogation.

A representative of the Kawasaki Police Station commented, “We will confirm the facts and work to prevent a recurrence.”
