HOKKAIDO (TR) – Police in Sapporo City have arrested a 33-year-old man who confessed to brutally bludgeoning his younger girlfriend to death with a hammer, reports Nippon News Network (July 13).
Yuto Okamoto, a self-described part-time worker, was sent to prosecutors on the morning of July 13. He is accused of murdering his girlfriend, identified as 22-year-old nurse Sana Sato, inside his Sapporo apartment two days before.
“There is no mistake that I beat her to death with a hammer,” Okamoto told investigators. “I did something that cannot be undone.”
According to police, Okamoto struck Sato in the head multiple times. Officers discovered her body slumped against the wall of a bedroom, with severe injuries to the top and back of her head. She also sustained multiple wounds to her hands and arms, indicating she attempted to defend herself from the blows.
Approximately two hours after the fatal assault, Okamoto walked into a local police station. “I killed my girlfriend and came to turn myself in,” he reportedly told officers at the front desk.
During questioning, Okamoto admitted to the allegations, telling investigators that the violence stemmed from a “tangle in their relationship.”
Neighbors were left shocked by the grisly discovery. “I was home at the time but didn’t hear or feel anything,” one resident of the apartment building said. “I’ve never heard of this area being unsafe. It’s simply unbelievable.”
Police are currently conducting an autopsy on the victim and are continuing to investigate the exact timeline and motive behind the killing.
