AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have arrested a 29-year-old man after his attempted suicide leap from an 11th-floor balcony in Nagoya fatally crushed a female pedestrian earlier this year, reports Nippon News Network (Aug. 27).
Nobunari Taguchi, whose occupation is unknown, is accused of jumping from a condominium in the Sakae district of Naka Ward on July 19. During his fall, he struck 23-year-old Tomoki Inaba, a local resident who was walking below.
Inaba died from hemorrhagic shock as a result of the impact, according to police.
Taguchi was left in a coma and remained in critical condition for months following the plunge. Authorities formally executed his arrest on August 27 on suspicion of gross negligence resulting in death after he recovered sufficiently in the hospital to hold a conversation.
While police have withheld whether the suspect has admitted to the allegations, investigators believe Taguchi jumped of his own volition and are continuing to probe the circumstances leading up to the fatal incident.
