Road rage: Man accused of stabbing driver in face with kitchen knife

CHIBA (TR) – Police here have arrested a 44-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed another motorist in the face with a kitchen knife following a traffic collision, reports Nippon News Network (May 1).

Junichi Inoue was taken into custody on the spot on April 29 after attacking a man in his 50s on a national highway in the Shimosangao area of Noda City.

During police questioning on suspicion of attempted murder, Inoue admitted to the attack but partially denied the attempted murder charge. “I stabbed him with a knife, but I did not intend to kill him,” the suspect was quoted as saying.

According to investigators, the violent altercation stemmed from a driving dispute. Inoue told police he became infuriated because he believed the victim was engaging in “road rage” driving.

Prior to the stabbing, Inoue’s vehicle crashed into the victim’s car, which was traveling in front of him, triggering a three-car pileup.

No injuries were reported from the collision itself. However, the victim sustained a stab wound to his right cheek from a kitchen knife. The injury is considered minor and will require approximately two weeks to heal.
