Chiba man arrested for fatally stabbing acquaintance during alcohol-fueled dispute

CHIBA (TR) – Police in Funabashi City have arrested a 63-year-old man for allegedly stabbing an acquaintance to death at his apartment following a drunken altercation, reports the Sankei Shimbun (June 22).

Mamoru Yuzuki, an unemployed resident of Funabashi, has admitted to the murder charge. “I stabbed him once around the side,” he reportedly told investigators, blaming the violence on a dispute that erupted while they were drinking.

According to the Funabashi Police Station, the fatal attack took place between 11:00 p.m. on June 20 and 2:15 a.m. the following morning. The victim, 50-year-old Takayuki Setsuda, had been visiting Yuzuki’s home at the time.

Police say the two men were drinking alcohol alongside a female acquaintance. The night took a violent turn, prompting the woman to make an emergency call at approximately 1:25 a.m.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Setsuda collapsed and bleeding from an abdominal wound, with Yuzuki and the woman standing nearby.

Though Setsuda was still breathing when emergency responders arrived, he was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
