KANAGAWA (TR) – A car and a truck collided at an intersection in Yokohama on Saturday before veering off-road and severely injuring two pedestrians in a possible drunk driving case, police said.
The car approached the intersection and turned right at a red light when it crashed into a truck that was heading straight on a green light, TV Asahi reports (October 22).
A breathalyzer test detected alcohol over the legal limit for the 40-year-old driver of the truck, Kanagawa Prefectural Police said.
“I was drinking and driving,” the truck driver was quoted as telling police, who plan to investigate the incident as a drunk driving case.
The two injured pedestrians suffered serious but otherwise non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
