TOKYO (TR) – The book written by a Japanese man who evaded police for two-and-a-half years after the murder of a young British English teacher is being made into a movie, Agence France-Presse reported, citing the producer.
Tatsuya Ichihashi was sentenced to life imprisonment for the rape and murdered of Lindsay Ann Hawker, 22, at his apartment in the city of Ichikawa, Chiba Prefecture on March 24, 2007. Ichihashi admitted to strangling Hawker accidentally during the rape and later buried her naked body in a bathtub filled with sand, according to the AFP.
Ichihashi, 31, detailed his two and a half years on the run in the book “Taiho Sarerumade—Kuhaku no Ninen Nanakagetsu no Kiroku” (Until the Arrest — The Blank Two Years and Seven Months). During that time, he had plastic surgery, lived on fish and wildlife on a small southern Okinawa island, and worked as a construction worker, AFP said.
Japanese actor Dean Fujiko is scheduled to star in the film which will reportedly be titled, “Taiho Sarerumade” (Until the Arrest), the news agency reported, citing the production company Sedic International.
According to AFP, Ichihashi offered to give the Hawker family the royalties from the book — an offer, the family refused. Ichihashi is appealing his life sentence.
