Man hits pedestrian in fatal plunge from terrace of Shibuya Parco

TOKYO (TR) – A young man struck a male pedestrian after taking a plunge from a terrace of a department store in Shibuya Ward on Saturday, police said.

At around 9 p.m., a female passerby called police from in front of Shibuya Parco, located in the Udagawacho area. She said, “Someone has fallen from above,” reports Nippon News Network (Jan. 12).

When emergency personnel arrived, they found the man bleeding and lying on the ground. He was taken a to hospital, where he was later confirmed dead.

Based on security camera footage, as the man fell to the ground, his foot struck the head of a male pedestrian in his 50s who was walking on the street with his wife.

The second man sustained minor injuries that are not considered life-threatening, the Shibuya Police Station said.

Based on personal items found at the scene, the man who died is believed to be 18 years old.

Police believe the man fell from the 10th floor terrace of Shibuya Parco. The Shibuya Police Station is investigating the circumstances that led to the incident, including the possibility of a suicide.

Shibuya Parco is located about 500 meters northwest of JR Shibuya Station.
