HYOGO (TR) – Hyogo Prefectural Police have arrested a 32-year-old self-proclaimed fortune teller accused of siphoning approximately 73 million yen in cryptocurrency from a female acquaintance, reports TBS News (Sep. 23).
Daisuke Ise, a resident of Himeji City, was taken into custody on the 23rd on suspicion of computer fraud.
At around 10:45 p.m. on October 3, 2024, Ise allegedly transferred the massive sum of digital assets from the 54-year-old woman’s wallet into an account under his own control, according to police.
Investigators revealed that the victim had previously consulted Ise for help cashing out her cryptocurrency because she had forgotten her password. Police believe the suspect was able to piece together her access information based on hints he extracted from her during their conversations.
The crime finally came to light in February of this year when the panicked woman approached police, reporting, “The cryptocurrency I was holding has disappeared.”
During police questioning, Ise denied the allegations. “I don’t have the knowledge to do any hacking,” the suspect told investigators.
