Gifu: Man found stabbed with internal organs exposed in apparent suicide attempt

GIFU (TR) – A man was found last week on a street in Gifu City with his exposed organs in an apparent knife attack. The case, which was originally being investigated as attempted murder, is now being treated as attempted suicide, police said, reports TBS News (Jan. 25).

At around 7 a.m. on January 24, a passerby called emergency services. “A man appears to have been stabbed, and his internal organs are exposed,” the caller said.

Emergency personnel arriving at the scene found the man collapsed on the ground with abdominal injuries. He was conscious when transported to a hospital. “I was slashed with a blade,” he said.

The Gifu Kita Police Station later described the suspect as being a man around 165 centimeters tall. He wore black clothing and a white mask.

The perpetrator was said to have fled the scene eastward. After investigators found a knife near the scene, they began an investigation on suspicion of attempted murder.

However, the following day, the injured man confessed to police during questioning that he had lied. “I actually stabbed myself,” he said. “I’m sorry.”

Aged in his 40s, the injured man is a staff member of an organization in Gifu City.

Police are now investigating why the injured man initially lied.
