FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police arrested a teenage girl after the body of a newborn boy was found in a garbage disposal area at an apartment complex in Fukuoka City on Monday, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 15).
At around 6:00 p.m., a woman reported living familiar with the apartment complex in Higashi Ward called police. She said, “A teenage woman came to me and said, ‘I gave birth to a baby at home, but he’s not breathing, and I want to do something about it.'”
Police officers rushed to the scene and spoke to the girl, 17, and others. After searching the area, they discovered the body of a newborn boy in a garbage dump on the grounds of the apartment complex.
The body of the boy had no visible injuries. The girl was treated at a hospital, but her life was not in danger, police said.
The girl is accused of placing the baby boy’s body in a garbage bag and leaving it near the entrance to her home at around 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
The baby was born at her home at around 5:00 a.m. two days before. A person living in the same residence, unaware of the contents of the bag, later took it to the garbage disposal area.
Police plan to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of the boy’s death.
