Corpse of newborn boy found at floodgate in Fukuoka

FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police launched an investigation after the discovery of the body of a newborn baby boy at a floodgate in Okawa City on Saturday, reports Nippon News Network (June 27).

At around 10:30 a.m., a worker from a cleaning company found the body amongst garbage piled up on land near a floodgate in Nitta.

The unclothed body was of a baby boy with its umbilical cord still attached. There were no visible external injuries. Police believe that the baby had been dead for some time.

The floodgate is in a waterway leading to the Chikugo River. The baby’s body was found amongst vegetation that had been pulled out of the water by the cleaning worker.

Police are seeking the identity of the body. The results of an autopsy will be used to determine the cause of death.
