WAKAYAMA (TR) – Wakayama Prefectural Police on Tuesday arrested a 27-year-old fashion model for the alleged robbery of an elderly man in Tanabe City, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 22).

On January 28 of last year, Mari Miyahara, a resident of Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, allegedly stole six million yen in cash and 29 pieces of jewelry (including a bracelet and wristwatch) valued at 54.5 million yen from inside the home of the 74-year-old man.

Miyahara, who has been charged with theft, denies the charges. “He said, ‘Go ahead, take it with you,'” the suspect is quoted by police. “I didn’t steal anything.”

The man became acquainted with the woman through a mutual friend. On the day of the crime, the man left Miyahara alone inside the apartment. When he returned, she was not present.

The next day, the man noticed that the items were missing and was unable to contact the suspect.
