TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested the grandson of an 89-year-old man found stabbed to death inside his residence in Chofu City last month, reports Jiji Press (Feb. 27).
Around the evening of February 15, Yuya Yamamoto, 23, is alleged to have stabbed 89-year-old Kazuo Yamamoto to death with scissors and stole about 23,000 yen in cash inside the elderly man’s first-floor residence, located in the Kokuryocho area.
“I don’t know, and I don’t care,” the suspect is quoted by police.
When police arrived at the residence, Yamamoto was lying face-up with stab wounds to the neck and face and markings on his arms indicating that he attempted to fend off an attacker. A pair of scissors covered in blood were also found at the scene.
After the incident, Yuya went missing. Police later seized a jacket covered in blood confirmed as belonging to Yamamoto from Yuya’s residence. The suspect was later apprehended at the residence of an acquaintance in Ota Ward.
According to police, the suspect had been pestering his grandfather and grandmother, who resides in an institution, for money. On the day of the crime, the victim received a pension payment. It is believed that he was killed by the suspect after refusing to give him money.
