OSAKA (TR) – Police in Tokyo have apprehended a 26-year-old Vietnamese national who was on a nationwide wanted list for an attempted robbery-murder at an underground shopping mall in Osaka City, investigative sources revealed on Thursday, reports ABC News (Sep. 3).
On June 9, Quang Van Giao is accused of conspiring with accomplices in a violent heist that took place at the Avetika underground mall near JR Tennoji Station.
According to police, Giao and his associates attacked a Vietnamese woman with a bladed weapon before making off with her bag, which contained approximately 220,000 yen in cash.
Following the brazen daylight attack, Giao fled by car toward the Kanto region.
The manhunt intensified on Wednesday when police released security camera footage showing the suspect at a highway interchange, issuing a public appeal for information on his whereabouts.
The dragnet proved successful just a day later, with investigators tracking down and securing the fugitive in the capital.
Authorities note that three other Vietnamese nationals — both men and women — have already been arrested in connection with the bloody robbery.
