SAITAMA (TR) – Police here have re-arrested a Vietnamese national on suspicion of robbery and murder in connection with the death of a 91-year-old woman whose body was found dumped in a mountainous area last month, reports Nippon News Network (Sep. 8).
Pham Cao Lien Cong, 33, is accused of breaking into the Iruma City residence of Kinuko Maruyama with the intent to steal in July. When Maruyama returned home, Cong allegedly murdered her and made his getaway in a vehicle parked at the property.
Maruyama’s remains were later discovered abandoned in the mountains of neighboring Hanno City on August 1. Following an ongoing investigation, police served Cong with a new arrest warrant on Tuesday.

During police questioning, the suspect admitted to the lethal assault but partially denied the robbery charges regarding the vehicle.
“There is no mistake that I killed her,” Cong told investigators, “but I had no intention of stealing the car.”
