On April 13, officers raided a shop and storage house located in the Ikebukuro area and seized more than 20,000 discs. Managers Shigeru Kuroda, 64, Seiji Sakamoto, 47, and one other employee were taken into custody on charges of possession of obscene material with an intent to sell.
By law, films available in Japan are required to have genitalia properly censored.
According to police, a signboard for the establishment was not used to evade detection. Instead, employees solicited customers on the streets of Ikebukuro.
Since opening in February, the operation collected six million yen in revenue.
The suspects have reportedly admitted to the allegations.
According to Fuji News Network (Apr. 17), this is the eighth time in the last three years that a tenant inside the building used by the suspects has been busted for the sale of uncensored DVDs. Police have subsequently warned the owner of the property about prosecution in the future.
