Newborn’s corpse found at Nagasaki sewage plant

NAGASAKI (TR) – Nagasaki Prefectural Police launched an investigation after the discovery of what is believed to be the corpse of a newborn at a sewage treatment plant in Nagasaki City on Saturday, reports NHK (April 1).

At around 11:45 a.m., a worker doing cleaning work at the East Nagasaki Sewage Treatment Plant found the body and reported the discovery to his supervisor. The supervisor then alerted the local fire department.

The umbilical cord was attached to the body. The gender is not known, police said.

The plant treats sewage for approximately 43,000 people, including general households and commercial facilities.

Police are seeking the identity of the body and attempting to learn the circumstances surrounding the incident. The case is being treated as abandoning a corpse.
