TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating what is believed to be a murder-suicide case after finding the bodies of two sisters inside a apartment they share in Shinagawa Ward, reports Nikkan Sports (Dec. 13).

At approximately 12:10 p.m. on Sunday, officers from the Osaki Police Station entered the residence, located in the Higashi Gotanda area, and found the body of Fumiko Saito, 46, collapsed together with that of her sister, 43-year-old Kazuko, on the floor of a bedroom. They were both confirmed dead at the scene.

The heads of both bodies had what appeared to be stab wounds. A knife and a letter were both found at the scene.

“My sister and I are going to be with our mother and father,” read the letter, believed to have been written by Fumiko on December 11.

Police believe that Fumiko killed her sister, who suffered from a developmental disability, before taking her own life, according to TV Asahi (Dec. 14).

Police were called to the unit after the sisters did not attend a holiday event held for residents of the apartment building.
