OITA (TR) – Following the discovery of a woman’s corpse inside an apartment in Oita Prefecture, police have arrested a former relative for trespassing in the residence, reports Fuji News Network (Sep. 30).
At around 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Yuta Kobori, 31, was apprehended by police on a street in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture.
The suspect had been sought in connection with the discovery of the body of Kyoko Watanabe, 60, in her apartment in Beppu City on Monday. He is the former husband of Watanabe’s second daughter.
The body was found leaning up against a wall in a seated position in the living room and covered with several blankets, according to the Asahi Shimbun (Sep. 30). Police came to the scene after being told by the suspect’s former wife that she could not contact her mother.
On the day before the discovery of Watanabe’s body, the suspect is alleged to have entered the residence without permission. Oita Prefectural Police subsequently sought Kobori for questioning as a part of a murder investigation.
Kobori was transferred to the Beppu Police Station on the day of his arrest. Police plan to question the suspect about what role he may have played in the death of Watanabe.
