TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday announced the bust of a casino in Shinjuku Ward for permitting illegal gambling, reports TV Asahi (Feb. 24).
Officers raided parlor Jumbo, located in the Kabukicho entertainment area, and took manager Takehiko Kawase, 43, into custody for allowing customers to place baccarat wagers on computers connected to a gambling site.
Two customers inside the premises at the time of the raid were also arrested.
Kawase admits to the allegations. “I thought it would be a profitable business,” the suspect is quoted by police.
Jumbo did not use a signboard to advertise the business. Instead, street touts lured customers off the streets.
Between October and this month, the operation had generated approximately 20 million yen in revenue. About 20 customers visited the parlor each day.
