TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday busted a Chinese hostess club in the Ikebukuro entertainment area for violating immigration laws, reports the Sankei Shimbun (July 3).

Officers took Kazuo Enomoto, the 58-year-old manager of Pub Chacha, located near JR Ikebukuro Station, and his wife, a 53-year-old Chinese national, into custody for employing a 29-year-old Chinese female residing in Japan on a student visa between May 29 and June 30.

Enomoto told police that he knew the girl was a student. “I did it because there is a shortage of hostesses,” the suspect said.

The hostess was also arrested for accepting employment outside of the limits of her visa.

Pub Chacha has collected approximately 200 million yen in revenue over the past five years.
