FUKUOKA (TR) – Fukuoka Prefectural Police are planning to arrest a boy in the stabbing death of a 19-year-old female prep school student in Fukuoka City’s Nishi Ward, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 28).
At approximately 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, Hikaru Kitagawa, 19, was stabbed in the face and neck on a street in the Meinohama area. She was later confirmed dead at a nearby hospital.
Police discovered two knives, with blades exceeding 20 centimeters in length, and an ax at the scene of the crime.
Not long after the incident, a 19-year-old male student from the same prep school arrived at a police box and admitted to stabbing a female acquaintance with a knife. The student had injuries on both of his hands.
Police intend to arrest the boy on charges of murder after he recovers from his wounds.
Kitagawa, a native of Kumamoto Prefecture, lived with her older brother in Fukuoka. The boy began attending the prep school in April of last year, according to NHK (Feb. 28).
