AOMORI (TR) – Aomori Prefectural Police suspect bullying caused a school girl to jump in front of a train in the town of Fujisaki last week in what is being considered a suicide, it was revealed on Sunday, reports the Mainichi Shimbun (Aug. 29).

At approximately 10:00 a.m. on August 25, the girl, a second-year student at Namioka Junior High School, jumped onto the tracks of the Ou Main Line at Kita-Tokiwa Station and into the path of an oncoming train.

The day before the incident, the girl was present at an opening ceremony for the latest term. However, on the following day she was determined to have been “late” for class.

“We are examining all the facts of the case, including whether bullying took place,” a representative of the school is quoted.

One week before, a 12-year-old boy hanged himself in a hut on his family’s property in the town of Tohoku. He left behind a 10-page suicide note that said he indicated he had been bullied.
