SHIZUOKA (TR) – Police here have issued a cessation order to a senior member of the Inagawa-kai yakuza syndicate for demanding protection money from a local nightlife establishment, reports Shizuoka Asahi TV (June 30).
The 48-year-old executive of the Morita-ikka, a gang affiliated with the designated Inagawa-kai crime syndicate, is accused of demanding mikajimeryo (protection money) and bouncer fees from a local hostess club.
In early to mid-June, the suspect allegedly flaunted his gang affiliation at the establishment, pressing the staff for cash by stating, “When there’s trouble, we’ll be the ones to protect you.”
Under Japan’s anti-organized crime laws, authorities slapped the mobster with a formal order commanding him to halt his extortion attempts.
Upon receiving the warning, the yakuza boss reportedly backed down without a fight, telling officers, “I understand. I won’t go there anymore.”
Police are continuing their investigation into the gang’s activities to determine if other establishments in the area have been targeted.
