AICHI (TR) – Following the apprehension of an organized crime member in Nagoya for assault, Aichi Prefectural Police re-arrested the gangster for the possession of illegal drugs, reports Nippon News Network (July 20).
On June 6, police found Yoshiyuki Tanaka, a 65-year-old member of the Yamaguchi-gumi living in Suzuka City, Mie Prefecture, to be in possession of 11 grams of kakuseizai, or stimulant drugs, and 12 grams of marijuana inside a parking lot near JR Nagoya Station.
Tanaka, who has been charged with possession with intent to sell, denies the charges. “I possessed the drugs but I was not intending to sell,” the suspect is quoted by police.
Prior to the discovery, police arrested Tanaka for an assault of a female acquaintance that resulted in injury. A subsequent search of his car revealed the contraband, which has a total street value of 800,000 yen, according to the Nagoya Broadcasting Network (July 21). The drugs were packed into small plastic bags.
