Tokyo: Woman, 84, fatally assaults husband with cane

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested an 84-year-old woman over the fatal assault of her husband at their residence in Kita Ward, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Feb. 9).

At around noon on February 8, Fuki Hayashi allegedly used a metal cane to repeatedly beat her husband, 88-year-old Yoshitaka, in the back o the head in a room of the residence, located in the Kirigaoka area.

Hayashi, who has been accused of inflicting injury, admits to the allegations. “Until now, I have been subjected to terrible treatment, and I lost my temper,” the suspect was quoted by the Akabane Police Station.

According to police, the suspect and her husband shared the residence. After the incident, Hayashi alerted her son. Upon his arrival at the residence, Yoshitaka was alive.

However, the suspect found him to not be moving the next morning. He was confirmed dead later that day, police said.

Depending on the results of the autopsy, police may change the charges against the suspect to manslaughter.
