Tokyo cops hunt for trio after Omotesando smash-and-grab robbery

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police are hunting for three persons who carried out a smash-and-grab robbery at a jewelry store in Shibuya Ward on Saturday, reports NHK (April 30).

At around 8:00 p.m., the three male suspects entered accessories store Monte Carlo in the Jingumae area of Omotesando and wielded at least one knife in front of a male clerk, aged 26. “Hand over the money,” one of them said.

In addition to taking cash from a register, the trio used what appeared to be hammers to smash showcases and steal necklaces and other items. They then fled with property valued at several hundred thousand yen.
