TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested a foreign man in his 40s for allegedly hugging and pushing down idol Kojima Haruna while she was at an event in Shibuya Ward on Monday.
At around 9 p.m., a staff member from Kojima’s office called police. “A man hugged Kojima and knocked her down,” the staff member said, reports Fuji News Network (Oct. 29).
Officers arriving at the scene arrested the unnamed man, who is believed to be a fan of the idol, on suspicion of assault. Police did not reveal whether the suspect admits to the allegations.
Kojima was unharmed in the incident, police said.
Kojima is a former member of idol group AKB48. At the time of the incident, the idol was appearing at an event to promote her latest photo book.
Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
