TOKYO (TR) – Television personality Ruriko Kojima has opened up about the dramatic turning points in her life, detailing her transition from variety show darling to single mother and entrepreneur, reports TV Asahi (Sep. 19).
Kojima previously stepped away from the entertainment industry to study abroad in China. Following a whirlwind period that included marriage, the birth of her first child, and becoming a single mother after the death of her husband last year, she is now aggressively expanding her portfolio.
Beyond her return to showbiz, Kojima is currently juggling a new tea business and managing her own private agency.
“A lot of courage”
Reflecting on her sudden shift away from the limelight, Kojima admitted the transition was daunting.
“When I decided to jump into a completely different industry, it took a lot of courage,” Kojima explained of her career pivot. “But I wanted my future self to be able to say, ‘Thank you.'”
“When I hit around 40 and face exhausting or challenging times, I want to be able to look back and say, ‘Thank you for working so hard back then,'” she continued. “Taking that first step requires a tremendous amount of energy, but I firmly believe it will pay off in the end.”
