TOKYO (TR) – A Chilean national indicted for a massive 200-million-yen luxury watch heist at a shopping complex in Nakano Ward last month has told investigators he handed the missing timepieces to a Spanish-speaking man in Osaka, reports Fuji News Network (Sep. 18).
On August 25, Boris Alexis Manzano Quezada, 33, and Jeremy Paolo Pina Guzman, 23, allegedly stole four high-end watches from a dealer in the popular Nakano Broadway shopping center. They were indicted on September 17.
While three of the four stolen watches remain unaccounted for, investigative sources have now revealed that Manzano Quezada has provided new details regarding their whereabouts. According to his statements to police, he transported the stolen goods to western Japan, claiming, “I handed them over to a Spanish-speaking man in his 40s in Osaka.”
Evidence suggests the heist may have been part of a highly coordinated escape plan. Investigators discovered that the day after the theft, an unidentified individual sent an electronic airline ticket bound for Italy to the second defendant.
Tokyo police believe the two men did not act alone and is actively hunting for further accomplices, operating on the theory that an international theft ring orchestrated the crime.
