Report: Japanese influencer dies after streaming suicide on TikTok in Seoul apartment

SOUTH KOREA (TR) – A Japanese woman in her 20s living in South Korea has died after broadcasting her own suicide live on social media, police said, reports Yonhap News (Aug. 5).

At approximately 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to an apartment in Seoul’s Yongsan district following an emergency call from an acquaintance. The caller told authorities, “My friend is attempting suicide during a live stream.”

The victim, described as a social media influencer boasting approximately 80,000 followers, carried out the fatal act during a live broadcast on the video-sharing app TikTok from her residence. The incident was broadcast to viewers in real-time.

The Yongsan Police Station in Seoul is currently investigating the exact circumstances leading up to the woman’s death.
