HOKKAIDO (TR) – Earlier this week, police arrested a 33-year-old employee of the popular Asahiyama Zoo for burning his wife’s corpse in an incinerator on the zoo grounds.
In the latest development, police said that Tatsuya Suzuki, who lives in Asahiyama City, likely brought the body to the facility in his car, reports NHK (May 2).
According to police, Suzuki transported the body of his 33-year-old wife, Yui, into the zoo around March 31 and disposing of her remains in the facility’s incinerator.
On Saturday, police sent Suzuki to prosecutors on suspicion of mutilating a corpse. He admits to the allegations, police said previously.

According to investigative sources, security cameras installed near the zoo’s entrance captured Suzuki arriving by car on the night of the incident. Footage showed the suspect unloading and carrying a large object measuring approximately one meter in size into the facility.
Police have seized three vehicles in connection with the crime, including the personal car believed to have been driven by Suzuki that night, as well as two zoo service vehicles.
Investigators suspect that after arriving at the main gate, Suzuki transferred his wife’s body from his own car to a zoo vehicle to transport her remains across the grounds to the incinerator.
Police are continuing to investigate the timeline of events and the circumstances surrounding the woman’s death.
