Saitama man arrested after pair of corpses found in home

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a 57-year-old man after bodies believed to be of his relatives were found at his home in Toda City on Saturday, reports Fuji News Network (Mar. 8).

At just before 4:00 p.m., police working off a tip entered the residence of Toshikazu Hagiwara, of no known occupation, and found a body likely belonging to his 89-year-old father inside a Japanese-style room on the first floor.

Upon his arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse, Hagiwara admitted to the allegations.

Police found a second body in another room on the first floor. The body is likely that of a his 94-year-old uncle.

Earlier in the day, a relative contacted police. “There are relatives I haven’t seen in years,” the caller said. Upon arrival, police made the discoveries.

There were no visible external injuries on the bodies. Both persons are believed to have been dead for quite some time.

Hagiwara lives with his father and uncle. Police are now working to confirm the identities of the bodies.
