Tokyo sex worker arrested over baby’s body parts found in refrigerator

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman in connection with a  baby’s body parts found in a refrigerator inside a commercial sex (fuzoku) business in Sumida Ward, reports Nippon News Network (Dec. 19).

According to police, Rei Obara is an employee at the establishment, located near JR Kinchicho Station.

She suspected of dismembering the infant’s body around March of this year. She then abandoned the head and limbs in a refrigerator in the waiting room.

Upon her arrest on suspicion of abandoning and dismembering a corpse, Obara admitted to the charges. “When I gave birth, the baby wasn’t crying or moving,” she said. “I lost consciousness afterwards, and when I came to, the baby had discolored. I knew I had to hide it. I couldn’t talk to anyone about it.”

“I wanted to keep my child close to me”

As previously reported, body parts were found by another employee on December 6.

The head of the baby, approximately a few months old and whose gender is unknown, was wrapped in a plastic bag. The baby’s arms and legs were found in airtight containers.

Obara also said, “I cut up the baby’s body with a box cutter at a nearby hotel and then left it in the refrigerator in the office, which I use every day. I wanted to keep my child close to me.”

Regarding the undiscovered torso part of the baby,  the suspect said, “I threw it in the trash can in the waiting room.”

Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the incident.
