TOKYO (TR) – A Russian hacker group has dumped hundreds of thousands of personal records stolen from major Japanese frozen food company Nichirei onto the dark web following a crippling cyberattack last month, reports TBS News (Aug. 10).
According to cybersecurity firm S&J, a Russian-linked collective calling itself RansomHouse leaked the stolen data on Tuesday morning. The compromised information includes the phone numbers and personal details of Nichirei employees as well as business partners, with the total number of leaked records reaching at least 200,000.
When approached about the massive data breach, a spokesperson for Nichirei remained tight-lipped. “We are aware of the situation, but we will refrain from commenting at this time,” the company stated.
The leak is the latest fallout from a severe system failure that struck the company on the 13th of last month. The initial cyberattack heavily disrupted Nichirei’s logistics network, causing widespread delays in frozen food deliveries and impacting supermarkets and the restaurant industry nationwide.
