CHIBA (TR) – A man claiming to be a company executive was arrested over the weekend on suspicion of trespassing at a prefectural high school in Yachiyo City.
As Fuji News Network (Dec. 8) reports, this was no ordinary break-in by Ryotaro Adachi, 38, who traveled some 300 kilometers from his home in in Nagoya City, Aichi Prefecture in search of a special type of footwear.
The incident took place at around noon on December 6. Since the school was closed at the time, a teacher who happened by a school restroom became suspicious when they say one to be in use.
Upon checking, they found Adachi with five pairs of school-issued indoor shoes believed to belong to female students. Adachi was apprehended on the spot by two teachers and handed over to police officers who arrived on the scene.
During questioning, Adachi stated, “I have a fetish for women’s scents, so I wanted to smell their indoor shoes.” He went on, “Schools in Aichi Prefecture use slippers, so I targeted schools in the Kanto region, where shoe-shaped indoor shoes are used.”
He also partially denied the charges. “I entered a school building, but this does not constitute trespassing,” he said.
According to police, a Shinkansen ticket from Nagoya to Tokyo was found in Adachi’s possession. The date on the ticket was the same as the day of the crime.
