Man wielding hammer goes on rampage in office, injures former female colleague

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Wednesday arrested a 32-year-old man who injured a woman during a rampage in which he wielded a hammer at his former office in Ota Ward, reports Fuji News Network (Nov. 5).

At around 12:30 p.m., police received a call about “a former employee causing a disturbance.”

Officers from the Denenchofu Police Station found the woman, aged in her 50s, bleeding from the head. She was taken to a hospital but her condition is not considered life-threatening.

She is believed to have been hit multiple times on the back of the head with what appeared to be a hammer. She was taken to the hospital by ambulance, but was reportedly conscious.

Police arrested Koki Takasu, 32, on suspicion of assault resulting in injury. According to police, Takasu is alleged to have smashed a computer with the hammer inside the office on the third floor, before chasing the woman and hitting her multiple times.

Takasu, who previously worked at the company, admitted to the charges, saying he holds a grudge against the company. “I had some trouble with the company,” he said in explaining his motive.

The 30-centimeter-long hammer was made of iron. He was also carrying a survival knife with a blade approximately 20 centimeters long. Both weapons were seized at the scene.
